In order to investigate the effect of visual recognition of indoor plants on psychophysiology, human brain electroencephalography (EEG) and cerebral blood flow were measured while subjects were watching Ficus benjamina ¢¥Star Light¢¥ (SL), Ficus benjamina (FB) placed in the room, or photo of Ficus benjamina (PH) on the wall. According to the results, while there was no significant difference in EEG between FB and SL groups, the group of PH showed increased ¥á waves in a part of the left temporal lobe and parietal lobe regions and decreased ¥ä waves in a part of the left frontal lobe region compared to FB groups, indicating that the activity of brain function in those areas may be enhanced. In case of brain blood flow, similar observation was made between FB and SL groups as in EEG, however, the average blood flow velocity of the anterior cerebral artery significantly increased, whereas the value of pulsitility and resistence index in the middle cerebral artery significantly decreased in the group of PH as compared to those of FB. The data would point to the fact that the blood flow velocity of cerebral artery was significantly enhanced by making green color stimuli activate the function of the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobe regions of the brain. Finally, the increased activities in brain function and blood flow by the photo of Ficus benjamina suggested that the green color stimuli were more intense in its photograph than Ficus benjamina itself.
